About
I never planned
a career. I just
couldn't look away.
Long form
Rodrigo de Alvarenga never planned a career. He simply could not see something broken without doing his best to fix it — and followed that instinct from the trading floors of global banks to the boardrooms of billion-real companies, through 30+ startup investments, and into classrooms on three continents.
For 21 years he worked in banking with HSBC, Safra, and Santander, eleven of them as Regional Superintendent for Corporate Banking in southern Brazil. In 2010 he crossed to the other side of the table, founding HAG Ventures and eventually investing in and backing more than 30 startups across four continents, with five exits. Boards followed: LIQ S/A, a publicly traded company with ~40,000 employees; the advisory board of Marketplace Risk in the United States; and today Dacar, a family-owned industrial group where he chairs the Business & Digital Transformation and Innovation Committee. So did classrooms: Visiting Lecturer at Porto Business School and FGV Brasília, delivering executive teaching and entrepreneurial learn-by-doing programs — including IEX, the international program he created. And stages: Web Summit Lisbon, TakeOff Istanbul, PODIM, UC Berkeley — plus eight years as chief mentor at the European Innovation Academy, Expert in Residence at the Hult Prize, and jury service for the European Commission's EIC Accelerator and MIT Innovators Under 35, mentoring over 1,000 founders along the way.
The thread through all of it is the same: deconstructing complexity — seeing the parts others don't yet see, rewiring them into decisions people can understand and stand behind. Thinkers360 ranks him #13 in LATAM and Top 50 globally. He works in English and Portuguese, between Europe, the USA, and Brazil, under one promise: clarity in complex decisions.

The thread
Banker for 21 years. Venture builder since 2010. Board director. Professor.
The jobs changed; the mechanism never did: deconstructing complexity — seeing the parts others don't yet see — and rewiring them into decisions people can understand and stand behind.
